This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps Hackney Cleaner has taken, and continues to take, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. We recognise our responsibility to uphold human rights and to act ethically in all aspects of our cleaning services business.

Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy

Hackney Cleaner maintains a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, child labour, servitude, and human trafficking. We are committed to acting with integrity and transparency in our business dealings and to putting effective systems and controls in place to safeguard against any form of modern slavery taking place within our own operations or our supply chain.

All directors, managers, employees, contractors, and suppliers are expected to support this commitment. Modern slavery is fundamentally incompatible with our values, and any breach of this policy is treated as a serious disciplinary and contractual matter that may result in termination of employment or business relationships.

Our Business and Supply Chain

Hackney Cleaner provides professional cleaning services to residential and commercial clients. Our workforce includes directly employed staff and vetted contractors. Our supply chain primarily consists of providers of cleaning products, equipment, uniforms, and related support services such as waste disposal and maintenance.

We recognise that some products used in cleaning services, including chemicals, textiles, and equipment, may originate from higher-risk sectors or regions. Accordingly, we assess these areas with particular care and take proportionate steps to reduce the risk of exploitation.

Supplier Standards and Audits

We expect all suppliers and contractors to share our commitment to preventing modern slavery and to comply with applicable labour, employment, and human rights laws. Our standard supplier terms require suppliers to prohibit forced, compulsory, and child labour; ensure fair working conditions; and promote safe and respectful workplaces.

Hackney Cleaner conducts risk-based due diligence on new suppliers and periodically reviews existing suppliers. This may include requesting information on labour practices, reviewing relevant policies and certifications, and where appropriate carrying out audits or site visits. Where we identify areas of concern, we seek corrective action and monitor progress. If a supplier is unwilling or unable to meet our standards, we may suspend or terminate the relationship.

Training and Awareness

We are committed to raising awareness of modern slavery risks among our staff. Managers and key employees involved in procurement, recruitment, and supervision receive guidance on identifying warning signs of exploitation, such as withholding of identity documents, unexplained deductions from wages, or signs of coercion.

Modern slavery awareness is incorporated into induction for relevant new starters and is periodically reinforced through internal communications. We encourage a culture in which ethical concerns can be openly discussed and escalated.

Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing

Hackney Cleaner encourages employees, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to report any suspicions or concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices, whether within our own operations or in our supply chain.

Concerns can be raised with a line manager, senior management, or through our internal whistleblowing mechanisms. Reports may be made confidentially, and individuals who raise concerns in good faith will not suffer any form of retaliation. All allegations are taken seriously and investigated promptly and sensitively, with appropriate remedial action taken where necessary.

Continuous Improvement and Annual Review

We are committed to continually improving our approach to identifying, preventing, and addressing modern slavery risks. Each year we review the effectiveness of our policies, procedures, training, and supplier oversight, taking into account any incidents, changes in our business, and evolving best practice.

This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed and updated on at least an annual basis by the leadership team of Hackney Cleaner to ensure it remains accurate, effective, and aligned with our values. We will continue to strengthen our systems and work collaboratively with our workforce and suppliers to help eradicate modern slavery in all its forms.
